Living my with my grandmother, I have gotten to meet so many nurses and see the healthcare system first hand. Throughout these visits after revealing I am a nursing student, the nurses faces’ brighten up. They tell me how wonderful the profession is and sometimes let me look into what they’re doing for my grandmother and the reasoning behind it. I’ve had the opportunity to learn so many skills from all of them. From hospital staff to nursing homes I have been able to recognize these skills and implement them into my own care. I like this photo because it shows the caring feeling of a nurse. As a student nurse I want to mimic this hand hold as a sign of respect and thoughtfulness towards them. Every time I see this picture I’m reminded of how the nurses treated her and I. It reminds me to always be caring and treat every patient like I would treat my grandmother.
I really love the personal aspect you added to this. The art of nursing is about making an impact which you’ve seen firsthand through your grandmother and within yourself as you care for her.
This is a great reason for why you become a nurse. Being compassionate about nursing care and understanding that nursing is more than just following physicians orders will allow you to become a great nurse. providing therapeutic touch and empathy to the patient and the family will make you a great nurse.
Michael, this picture represents so much love between you and your grandmother! I am glad she received care that inspired you to share your skills and heart. Great job!
