At the beginning of the semester I was reading over the question one time, changing my answers frequently, and getting distracted by my environment. Now I feel more confident in my test taking abilities as I have been able to adapt these weaknesses into strengths. I now read the question over another time and try to highlight key words so I do not miss out on them. I also have learned to stay with my gut and focus more on the test than my environment
To start the semester I met with Professor Day and we broke down my study habits and how I can improve my nursing content learning. Our plan was just to make a detailed schedule every week on what to do and when to do it. I found that this helped me deeply. I also met with Professor Hyde to discuss test taking strategies and she helped me implement new strategies on how to answer questions.
One of the best activities I have implemented for myself throughout the semester is to take a 30-minute window every week to meditate. I find that just sitting in a dark room and clearing my mind for 30 minutes not only helps with relaxation but also decreases stress levels. It honestly is one of the best interventions I have done for the semester and I plan on implementing it into my every day routine.
As I go forward in my nursing career I am going to continue doing practice exams and using ATI as a resource for my studying for the NCLEX. I find that the exams are very helpful for practicing and the fact that many of them have extensive question banks will help filter out many questions so I do not end up just memorizing the question. I will also find the ATI resources helpful when reviewing rationales onto why my answer is incorrect
