The movie really inspired me to continue my career, even through all the hardships. A lot of times on long nights trying to keep up with the difficult curriculum of nursing school, I find myself becoming discouraged. That video however was very motivational and gave purpose behind those long nights. I learned from that video that I will need to continue honing my skills and working more on cooperation with the health care team. First, I have to get onto the healthcare team. In order to achieve this, I will work diligently to prepare for the interview process. Many nurses during this process are going to say the same generic things. However, before my interviews I am going to research the institutions I am applying for and show great knowledge about them. This will show how invested I am in their hospital and their values. I will also use the nursing faculty I have access to now to help with the question practice needed for these interviews. When describing my strengths to potential employers, I will be sure to show my determination, drive, and effort I put towards everything that I do. I can do this by sharing stories of how I persevered through the trying times of nursing school. I can also show my teamwork abilities by discussing my job as a CNA and my time on the UNE track and field team. When discussing my challenges and plans/steps to take to address them, I will share a story of when I worked in a nursing home. One shift after being at school, a new policy was put in place about the passing of food trays. In that facility it was our role to pass them out during mealtimes. However, during this time we were also tasked with answering lights, feeding residents and other conducting other duties for the floor. With this new policy, we were restricted the amount of food trays we could bring at a time. This decreased productivity on the floor drastically because we were devoting our time solely to trays. I saw that there could be ways to fix this issue and increase productivity, and so I decided to go to management and inform them. Once I did this, I was at least able to convince them to reevaluate the policy. This made me feel important to the team and helpful.
Matt, way to be solution-oriented!
My apologies for addressing you as “Matt” instead of “Mike”!
