I felt good going into this assessment. While having a nursing content exam every week in our classes, it has been stressful but also helpful for picking up on techniques to help test taking. One of the biggest points I have found is that I need to take my time and take breaks during an assessment. For this exam, I took two separate breaks for about 3 minutes to just compose myself and freshen my eyes a bit. After doing those breaks, I was able to get back into the exam and did not get tripped up on silly mistakes I may have gotten tripped up with if I did not take that break. When working through the problems too I suffered less fatigue and felt fresh going into sections of the exam. I also slowed down per question, making sure I spent ample time going through the question.
Some aspects I would like to improve on in the next exam include highlighting key parts of the question. I still find myself getting tripped up on reading a wrong word or missing a certain aspect. So I think if I highlight the exam, I will be able to easily identify these pieces.
Using the test-taking skills you are learning with the ATI assessments in your other courses’ exams is a really great strategy!
